Alex G. Says-I would not blame natural disasters on science because its the climate and the weather that for natural disasters. For example if it gets to hot you get a drought. If it gets to cold you get a snow storm. If there is a storm and it develops into a hurricane how would science create that its the way the climate reacts with the weather and clouds. For a tsunami the tectonic plates rub together and they create a tidal wave. Its basically a earthquake in water.
Cliff J: Some towns are below sea level so when it rains there the sewer fill up with water while it's still raining so by the time it is done raining the streets have been floded
I agree with Alex. Natural disaster can not be blamed on science. This does not make sense. Science is the study of happening such as these. The actual storms and such are cause by the weather and climate. Scientists do not plan for a hurricane to happen they predict when it will happen and study them. Therefore scientists and science should not be blamed for these events. -Philip
Cole B. Nick, I see where you're coming from. BUT, can you predict earthquakes? The answer is no because you only can tell if there's an earthquake right as it happens.
Desiree M says: Science does not always cause natural disasters, I think its global warming and the advances in technology. Now that the climates are changing, the storms are increasing in strength. Do not always blame science for things that "we" caused.
Nick J says to Cliff J: Science needs to develop more so we can devise a way to get towns out from below sea level so we don't have such horrific floods
Cole B. Also, we were supposed to get a big hurricane a few weeks ago. When I looked out my window, I did not see any rain. AND, weathermen are wrong all the time: ALEX that is on place where science could be to blame.
Nick J: @cole but if it wasn't for science, we would not be able to track how powerful earth quakes are and find what we need to do to build structures that stand up to earthquakes. So even though science doesn't cause natural disasters, it helps to prepare and recover from them.

William B I agree with what you said. A lot of natural disasters you can't stop. I don't think that science caused these disasters.

ReplyDeleteRaffaele says- I think it is unfair to blame science on natural disasters because science is simply the study of those things and did not create them.
